We are a family of grapplers and support each other both inside and outside of the club.
Mike Cimmarusti has always been an avid fan of the martial arts gaining inspiration from Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and others.
As a kid, Mike studied Karate, Taekwondo, and Hapkido. In high school, Mike took a break from the martial arts to pursue other sports.
But in 2006, Mike’s brother invited him to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class. He was instantly hooked. Since then, it has been Mike’s dream to start his own grappling club.
In July 2015, that dream became a reality when Mike started Illinois Grappling Club.
Illinois Grappling Club offers a variety of grappling classes with a focus sport jiu-jitsu.
Because we focus so much on sport jiu-jitsu, we spend most of our time sparring. We find that endless drills alone are useless.
To truly understand jiu-jitsu and develop your skills, you need to apply those drills when you spar.
